In January 2017, Heritage Building and Conservation Ltd contacted Castle Hill Fire Protection to deliver a £7,000 fire protection package to Framlingham Castle. The Castle is located in the market town of Framlingham, Suffolk. Framlingham is famously home to English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, and is featured in his single ‘Castle on the Hill’. Framlingham Castle was initially constructed of timber in the 12th century. Today, the Castle is managed by English Heritage and run as a tourist attraction. It is protected under UK law as a grade I listed building and a scheduled monument.
The scope of work included:
- Intumescent paint application to steelwork to protect steel to 60 minutes
- Fire stopping to compartment walls to prevent spread of smoke or flame
- Class ‘O’ coatings to walls to prevent spread of flame
- Fire curtains to roof voids to prevent spread of smoke and flame
